REGISTRATION:

Enclosed in this newsletter is an insert that has the Reservation/Meal Order Form on one side, and the Reunion Questionnaire on the other.  Please fill out both sides and return in the pre-addressed envelope to our Class Treasurer with your check BEFORE MARCH 31, 1999.

Please note that the Reservation Form will also be available on the Alumnae Association’s Web Site.  It is not an inter-active Web Site and you will still need to mail in your registration.  The Web Site is located at www.smith.edu.

THE FEES/DUES:

You will, no doubt, be confused about all of the different fees involved, and taken together, the total cost of Reunion seems expensive.  Hopefully, after we’ve broken down all of the fees and explained what they cover, you will have a better understanding of the cost of Reunion.

The Alumnae Association will be sending out a Reunion Package to include the following:
- Fees for on-campus bed & breakfast
- Fees for Alumnae College
- All-College Dinner on Thursday and All-College Lunch on Friday
- Yellow Ribbons and Tote Bags for the Alumnae Parade
- Childcare program

The Class’ Reunion Package includes the following:
- Fees for all meals. These fees are exactly what Dining Services charges the Class.
- Fees for attending Reunion. This covers Class costs per person attending Reunion. Please note that this amount is being subsidized by the Class Treasury and is less than what the Class charged five years ago.
- Fees for Class Membership. This covers Class costs between Reunions and subsidizes other Reunion costs.

CLASS FUND AGENT APPEAL:

Whether or not you are able to attend Reunion, don't forget to make your pledge to this year's Alumnae Fund.  Your participation -- at any amount -- is important for lots of reasons.  Here is just one incentive for you: five and ten years ago, do you remember sitting in your white dress/shorts/pants after the Alumnae Parade watching students parade signs showing the amount each class raised?  This year, when they show the sign for the Class of 1989 -- the 10th YEAR REUNION Class -- let's have it say we met our goal: $45,000 with 40% of our classmates participating.  The fiscal year ends June 30, but please try to make your gift (or at least your pledge) before Reunion.  We still have a long way to go, so mail in your pledge to the Alumnae Fund now.  (PLEASE DON’T INCLUDE YOUR GIFT WITH YOUR REUNION FEES/DUES.)  Better yet, call Smith (1-800-241-2056) and make your gift by credit card!

If mailing your pledge/gift to the Alumnae Fund, send it to:
Alumnae House
33 Elm Street
Northampton, MA 01063

HOUSE REPS:

The purpose of the House Reps is to communicate with classmates in each house to get people interested in coming to Reunion.  There is no better way to reach out to our classmates than through people you know.  So far, we have the following House Reps:

Chapin: Ann Perry
Chase: Anne Martin
Comstock: Michelle (Fresia) Chang & Dawn (Bez) Epp
Scales:  Abby Klieman
Washburn: Rita Hennessey
Wesley: Emily Miller
Wilder: Lisa Burton
Wilson: Karen (Peterson) Young
AC:  Linda Doyle

Northrop: Becky Ruppert
Park:  Susan Baker
Cushing:   Tina Dunbar
Emerson: Joan (Mulloney) Stone
Friedman: Kathy White
Jordan: Catherine King & Tina Carlos
Lamont: Jacky Arrowsmith
Morris: Barbara Keenan
Morrow: Maria Mazzeo

Obviously we need many more.  Please contact the Housing Coordinators to volunteer to be a House Rep.

NOMINATING COMMITTEE CHAIR:

We are currently asking all classmates who are interested in running for any of the following offices, to please call the Nominating Committee Chair.  We will be voting on new class officers at Saturday night dinner during Reunion.  Please note, if you cannot attend Reunion, you can still run for an office.

Class Officers:
President
Vice President/Reunion Chair
Treasurer
Secretary
Fund Agent
Special Gifts Chair

REUNION QUESTIONNAIRE:

Once again, we will be compiling a Class Book to be distributed at Reunion.  The Class Book will contain up-to-date information provided by you, our classmates.  However, if you choose not to fill out this questionnaire (to be found on the back of the Reservation/Meal Order Form), we will include the most recent information provided by the Alumnae Association.  The information provided in the questionnaire will only be used for purposes of creating this Book.  If you have any question on the Class Book, please contact the Class Book Chair.

If you are not planning on attending Reunion, please fill out the questionnaire anyway and return it in the pre-addressed envelope.  If you are not with us at Reunion and are interested in obtaining a copy of the Class Book, check the Reservation/Meal Order Form where you can order your own copy.

 PRELIMINARY REUNION SCHEDULE:

You will find enclosed a preliminary Reunion schedule.  There are some items we would like to point out; Friday night and Saturday night dinners include cocktail hours.  We will be having our Class Meeting during Saturday night’s cocktail hour.  At our Class Meeting we will be giving out awards to our Class as well as voting in our new Class Officers.  Please see the Nomination Committee Chair’s column for more info.

In addition, during Saturday’s Box Lunch at Seelye, we would like to collect items/memorabilia from our Class for the Smith College Archives.  The College began to collect archive materials since our arrival at Smith.  Unfortunately, our Class has very little archived.  Please bring to Reunion items like graduation programs, invitations, photos, Class t-shirts, other programs from our years at Smith, year-books, and anything else that would provide an archival historical reference for our Class.
