Come Ride With Us!
General Information
The Riding School at American Sporthorse is our entry level and recreational riding program. Our program
is designed to start horse-lovers on a lifetime athletic partnership with correct and fun basic instruction.
We maintain a small group of school horses with dispositions suitable for beginners and intermediates. We work with
ages 6 and up (6 is generally the youngest age recommended for focused instruction). Instruction is given in
group, semi-private and private lessons. Partial leases and practice rides are available when the instructor feels
the student has achieved sufficient skills and judgement for riding and practicing independently. If a student wishes
to purchase a horse and move into one of our boarding and training programs the Riding School staff can assist
with guidance in making this significant transition.

Once secure in individual control, learning to control your
horse in a group can be fun and a way to start competition too!
The horse with the white face in the lead is one of our top school horses, Pajaro.
Eppy is another favorite!
Our riding school students learn the basic classical foundation of all styles of horsemanship - a balanced
seat, understanding the way horses think, and the basics of dressage training. Control of the horse is
emphasized and all students learn to groom, tack up, and cool down their horse as part of their equestrian
education. The horse's equipment is provided, but we strongly encourage students to purchase their own personal
equipment (suitable riding shoes with a heel, an approved, correctly-fitted ASTM-SEI safety helmet, and
appropriate riding attire). Only English-style tack is used. We do not rent horses. Horse leases are available
for students in an ongoing lesson program so they may practice skills between lessons. Competitive
opportunities exist with shows held at the farm, local dressage shows and quadrille team (drill team)
competitions and exhibitions. The School uses the covered arena (with mirrors and lights so lessons can continue in all but the worst
weather) and the outdoor arena and surrounding fields. There is a covered viewing gallery for observation
of the lesson out of the sun or elements. Lesson rates run from $25 to $50, discounts for lessons purchased
in packages. Call or email for more information.Horsemanship programs focusing on different topics can be arranged for small groups: basic horse care,
nutrition, anatomy, advanced grooming, first aid, etc.
Instructors have many years of equestrian experience in several disciplines and offer unique instruction
and creative approaches for all levels of students.Contact Staff directly with further questions:
